Beyond the Office: How AUSEK’s 2026 Retreat Built a More Connected Team

In an era where remote work and cross-departmental projects often keep us siloed, AUSEK took 130 team members out of the office and into nature for a two-day offsite retreat. More than just a break from spreadsheets and meetings, this experience was designed to rebuild human connections, strengthen collaborative muscles, and remind us that our greatest strength lies in working as one.

Held at the scenic Yuanye Camp, surrounded by lush greenery and riverside trails, the retreat brought together employees from engineering, marketing, operations, and customer service—many of whom had never worked side-by-side before. What followed was two days of challenges, laughter, and meaningful conversations that transformed how we see each other and our work.

1. Breaking Down Silos: From Colleagues to Collaborators

The biggest goal of the retreat was to tear down the invisible walls between departments. We intentionally mixed teams so that engineers were paired with marketers, and customer support specialists worked alongside product managers.

The "Challenge NO.1" series—fast-paced games that required split-second communication and coordination—proved to be the perfect icebreaker. Teams quickly learned that success didn’t depend on individual talent, but on listening to each other, playing to each other’s strengths, and adapting when things went wrong.

By lunchtime on day one, the difference was noticeable. People who had only ever exchanged emails were now sharing stories, laughing together, and brainstorming solutions to real work problems over homemade meals.

"I’ve been at AUSEK for two years, but this was the first time I actually got to know the people on the engineering team," said Lisa from the marketing department. "Now when I send them a request, I don’t just see a name in my inbox—I see a teammate I trust."

2. Leadership & Accountability: Lessons Beyond the Boardroom

One of the most impactful parts of the retreat was the "Leadership Challenge"—an activity that gave every team member a chance to experience what it means to be responsible for a group’s success.

In this exercise, team leaders took responsibility for their team’s mistakes, even when they weren’t personally at fault. As the challenges got harder, many team members stepped up to share the burden, realizing that leadership isn’t just about giving orders—it’s about supporting your team and taking accountability together.

This experience sparked powerful conversations about how we lead and support each other in the workplace. Many employees shared that they now have a deeper appreciation for the challenges their managers face, while managers gained new insights into how to empower their teams.

3. Creativity & Problem-Solving: Building Something Amazing Together

The highlight of the retreat was the "Dream Roller Coaster" project. Working in large cross-functional groups, we were given only basic materials—PVC pipes, balloons, and tape—and tasked with building a fully functional roller coaster.

This project pushed us to think creatively, communicate clearly, and solve problems on the fly. Designers worked with engineers to draft blueprints, operations specialists organized the construction process, and everyone pitched in to test and adjust the tracks.

When the first ball successfully rolled down the final track, the entire camp erupted in cheers. It was a powerful reminder that when we combine our different skills and perspectives, we can achieve things that no one person could do alone.

4. Culture in Action: Living Our Values Every Day

At AUSEK, we talk a lot about our values: innovation, collaboration, and respect. But the retreat gave us a chance to live those values, not just talk about them.

From the morning run where no one was left behind, to the evening sharing session where people opened up about their personal and professional journeys, every moment was rooted in mutual respect and support. We saw our values come to life in the way teams helped each other, in the way we celebrated each other’s successes, and in the way we lifted each other up during challenges.

Closing: Investing in Our Most Valuable Asset

At the end of the two days, we left Yuanye Camp with more than just sunburns and memories. We left with stronger relationships, a deeper understanding of each other, and a renewed sense of purpose.

At AUSEK, we believe that our people are our most valuable asset. This retreat wasn’t just a perk—it was an investment in our team’s growth and our company’s future. We know that when our team is connected, engaged, and working together, we can deliver better products, better service, and better results for our customers.

We’re already looking forward to next year’s retreat, and to seeing how the connections we built this year will shape our work in the months to come.
